Laboratory Test Results
The unit controls have been validated by a select number of independent testing laboratories and utilities in the United States. These tests were performed in the laboratory and in the field and provide unbiased and independent corroboration of the energy-saving strength of our line.
Test Reports
Tested Unit Control: Residential Heat Economizer
Testing Organization: ETL Testing Laboratories
Testing Methodology: Lab
The Test:
A gas-fired efficiency boiler with a heat exchanger was set up in the lab to simulate the characteristics of a typical house. Two load profiles, Winter and Spring/Fall, were tested. Both tests lasted 4 hours.
The Results:
During the Winter simulation, fuel usage was reduced 11.5% and burner run-time was reduced 12.5%. During the Spring/Fall simulation, fuel usage was reduced 27.2% and burner run-time was reduced 28.3%.
The Residential Heat Economizer provided significantly more savings than the guaranteed minimum 10%.
Tested Unit Control: Residential Heat Economizer
Testing Organization: Brookhaven National Laboratories
Testing Methodology: Lab
The Test:
An oil-fired high efficiency boiler with a constant flow, constant temperature, water-cooled plate heat exchanger. The test rig was heavily instrumented to measure and record complete temperature and flow rate histories. The rig was adjusted to simultaneously match burner cycle rate, boiler flow rate and boiler temperature differential for a typical residence. Data was recorded at 5-second intervals with a resolution of .01 seconds. The entire rig was tested for a minimum of 50 burner cycles.
The Results:
Burner run-time was reduced 14.1% when the unit was operating.
Burner cycling-rate was reduced 64.5% when the unit was operating.
The Residential Heat Economizer provided significantly more savings than the guaranteed minimum 10% with a significant reduction in operational wear and tear.
Tested Unit Control: Residential Heat Economizer
Testing Organization: Atlantic Testing Laboratories
Testing Methodology: Field – New energy efficient home
The Test:
An oil-fired boiler in a Merrick, New York home was tested over a five week period using the HW. Outside daytime temperatures averaged 50 to 55° F while nighttime temperatures averaged 30 to 35° F. Room air temperature was recorded periodically throughout the test. The unit control was turned on, then off, every other day throughout the test period.
The Results:
Burner run-time was reduced 14.7% when the unit was operating. Burner cycling-rate was reduced 18.2% when the unit was operating.
The Residential Heat Economizer provided significantly more savings than the guaranteed minimum 10% with a significant reduction in operational wear and tear.
Tested Unit Control: Residential Heat Economizer
Testing Organization: Brooklyn Union / Keyspan Corporation
Testing Methodology: Field – Residential home
The Test:
A boiler-heated home in Merrick, New York was tested over a two month period using the unit. Room air temperature was recorded periodically throughout the test. The unit control was turned on, then off, every other day throughout the test period.
The Results:
A significant (33%) increase in home temperature consistency occurred when the Residential Heat Economizer was operating.
